ABOUT ME 關於我
Hi, I’m Emily, an expat living in Kuala Lumpur, originally from Taipei. My fashion journey began at the age of 7, making a tiny tweed dress for my Barbie from the scratch. Now, I’m living the corporate chic life, working for a fast fashion company—though my path here wasn’t exactly what I expected!
I met my Malaysian husband during our years in National Taiwan University, and after graduation, we decided to settle in Kuala Lumpur due to better job opportunities for both and lower living costs. I made a bold career switch from traditional fashion roles to e-commerce, ensuring I could secure a work visa. Seven years later, it turns out I made the right decision!
"Emily in KL" is a playful nod to how my work BFF, Pei, often compares me to Emily in Paris. Like the heroine, I’m an expat working in digital marketing and fashion in a foreign city. But even with KL’s friendliness and amazing food scene (yes, I’m a food and café-hopping enthusiast! ), I sometimes feel lonely and unheard. Maybe it’s because some thoughts can’t be captured in a 15-second TikTok clip, so I decided to start this blog to express them.
On Emily in KL, I’ll share my love for fashion—insights into the style differences between Malaysia and Taiwan, tips from my years in the industry, insta-worthy cafes, and my personal food adventures in KL. I’ll also open up about the challenges of international marriage, cross-cultural love, drama with in-laws, and the dilemmas of raising a mixed-race baby.
When I’m not immersed in fashion or food, I enjoy browsing fashion magazines for inspiration (which sometimes turns into new marketing plans or design ideas for my HQ). And yes, I’m a fan of Emily in Paris—even if the plot is a little over the top, it’s a brilliant marketing tool.
So, if you love fashion, food, and a little peek into expat life in KL, stick around!
